Our History
A Reunion Ignited a Global Movement
In 2017, Loreto House celebrated a milestone: 175 years of empowering young women in India. While grand festivities brought the Loreto community together, many alumnae, scattered across the globe, felt a pang of missing out. This sparked a powerful idea – a Grand Reunion for all Loreto House alumnae, a chance to reconnect, celebrate, and give back to our beloved Alma Mater. Fueled by the magic of WhatsApp, a passionate group of alumnae, from various batches and locations, started planning.
"Our Sunny Days of Youth": A Reunion with Purpose
Our reunion, aptly named “Our Sunny Days of Youth” after our nostalgic school song, became the first-ever fundraising event in Loreto House history. Over 430 alumnae from 60 batches descended upon Loreto House for a joyous “Back to School” event. We danced, sang, and even hosted a fashion show featuring Loreto’s own designers, modeled by fellow alumnae, at a glamorous gala.
The weekend culminated in a heartwarming lunch and sundowners at the iconic RCTC, overlooking the vibrant city of Kolkata. It was a resounding success!
Beyond the Celebration:
Making a Lasting Impact
But the most significant achievement? We raised a remarkable INR 56.4 Lakhs (approximately USD $68,000) for school projects. These funds were used to design, construct, and equip the school’s brand new Home Science Lab and Computer Lab. This ignited a passion to continue. The “Ladies Youth Association” (LYA) was established in Kolkata as a non-profit organization, dedicated to raising funds for Loreto House projects.
A Global Sisterhood
Takes Flight
Fast forward to 2024, we’re thrilled to announce the launch of our US Chapter – Sunny Days of Youth Inc.! This non-profit organization will work alongside the LYA, transforming our mission of giving back into a truly global effort.
